The History

Established in the 1820s, Rosedale is one of Toronto’s oldest suburbs. When Sheriff William Botsford Jarvis settled here, his wife, Mary, named it for its abundance of wild roses. Many of Rosedale’s uniquely winding streets still follow the trails that Mary Jarvis blazed on foot and on horseback.

When the family sold their property in 1864, the area further took shape. South Rosedale began to develop, followed by its northern counterpart in 1909. Notably, North Rosedale was once the site of St. Andrews College. With such a long and prestigious history, it’s no wonder the neighbourhood is home to so many heritage properties!
